The theme of the game jam was willpower and our game idea drew inspiration from titles like Jump King and Getting Over It. In the game, the main character is a tiny bunny who wants to reach the castle in the sky and catch a sparkly crown to itself. The bunny gains willpower by collecting floating gems along the journey. The main objective is to get to the top of the maze and obtain the treasure. During the journey, the bunny will face difficult obstacles that hold the chance of falling back to square one and having to start the journey again. With enough willpower gathered, the bunny can secure its journey.
My part of the work was to create all the graphics and animations. The art style was meant to be pixel art, in which I already had previous experience. However, I faced challenges while creating styles fo the platform tiles. I was unsure what kind of tile pieces were needed and how they would connect to each other in the game engine. With the help and knowledge of a teammate, I learned how to draw the tile pieces and how to use Unity's rule tile to create the tilemap in an efficient way.
Because of the limited time of the jam, we weren't fully able to implement the desired ending to our game, which was to reach the castle and obtain the crown. However, we finished the remaining features after the jam and a few weeks later we showcased our game to other students and visitors in Gamelab Demoday event at our school.
